With the support of the international scientific community in November 2017, Ecuador was declared the “orchid country” during an international exhibition developed in the city of Cuenca.  In a study conducted on the Ecuador Flora it was determined that the 24% corresponds to orchids, which means 17058 species of vascular or flowering plants, and within this large number of orchids, and we have the smallest orchid in the world with 2.1 mm,.  In total we have 1 714 endemic varieties in Ecuador.

Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVAL IN QUITO-ECUADOR FROM INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT

Arrival in Quito – Transfer in to Hotel. Overnight (B)

Day 2QUITO – CITY TOUR – BOTANIC GARDEN

Departure to enjoy comprehensive city tour includes visits to the Basilica Church, Walking through the colonial streets, we will then stop at the Independence Plaza admiring the Cathedral, the Government’s Palace, and the archiepiscopal palace. Furthermore, we will visit La Compañia Church where adornments and gold altars can be appreciated, a visit to the Sagrario Church and San Francisco which was built in the XVII century will be also done. Then we will head to the “Panecillo Mirador” a beautiful place, from where a sight of colonial and modern Quito will be taken.
PM Visit to the Quito Botaic Garden that maintains a collection of the most representative Ecuador’s orchids there are 4100 species surrounded by other species such as bromeliads, Araneae, ferns, ciclantáceas, in order to configure the indispensable habitat. Return to Hotel for Overnight (B)

Day 3MITAD DEL MUNDO – MINDO

Visit to the world-famous Equator, “Mitad del Mundo” which is located only 30 minutes from Quito. Here you will have the opportunity to jump from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. In the 18th century the French Geodesic Expedition arrived here to perform important researches and investigate the Earth’s actual form. A monument visit and the interesting visit to the Intiñan Museum will be included. The main objective of the museum is to rescue a new image of the existence of a geographical center of the ancient worldview. It is located a few meters from the official monument of the Middle of the World. The Solar Museum Intiñan is crossed by a red line where the owners claim it is the real center of the world. Although it is difficult for the GPS signal to work here because of the mountains that surround this point, one can confirm that it is very close to the coordinate 00 °. This is an ideal place to visit near an equinox in March or September, when the sun’s rays fall perpendicular to the earth and therefore there is no shadow.

Later continue your journey to Mindo, where you will arrive towards late noon. You will stay a little outside the village. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity visit a buttlefly farm. Overnight The Cloud Forest is a paradise for bird lovers. The reserve Orquideológica Pahuma has an extension of 650 hectares and is between 1,960 MASL and 2,900 masl, is a montane humid forest, its vegetation is abundant and home to a large number of plants epiphytes including brómelas, mosses, ferns and protects More than 270 species of orchids, of which nine are endemic. Day 4MINDO NAMBILLO RESERVE OTAVALO

Visit the Cloud Florest and Reserve of Mindo Nambillo, trekking up to 4 hours this is a paradise for bird lovers, and as it is very easy to observe different types of hummingbirds, as well as tanga, herons, woodpeckers and Tucans. Continue on the pan-north to the province of Imbabura, visit to a roses plantation where clients can see different production which is exported to Europe. Clients also will visit a Roses Farm where all the unique species of roses produced and exported from Ecuador can be seen, during their complete process.
Also you will visit a Showroom with spectacular flowers produced in Ecuador. Continue to Molino San Juan a typical hacienda of the Ecuadorian highlands. Overnight (B)

Day 5OTAVALO CUICOCHA PAPALLACTA

Visit to the colourful Indian market of Otavalo. Immerse yourself in this hustle and bustle of people, colours and life. Continue on to Cotacachi, which has made a name for itself for its leather production. Not far away is the gorgeous crater lake Cuicocha of the still active volcano Cuicocha, short trekking observing the most common groups of plants are bromeliads and orchids, of which have been recorded about 100 species, including the small and purple maigua, very common in the reserve. In the afternoon you will drive from Otavalo to bring “Termas de Papallacta .” Termas de Papallacta Spa & Resort is a unique destination in Ecuador. Known for its pure spring water and its ecological function and unique landscape. The spa is located near the Cayapas Nature Reserve. Overnight in Termas de Papallacta (B)

Day 6COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK AND PATATE

After breakfast departure to visit to Cotopaxi National Park which lies at the foot of the world’s highest active snow-capped volcano (5897 m.). The Cotopaxi National Park is located 60 km from Quito. It is an hour drive to this national site consisting of 83,829 acres. The road will take us to the Limpiopungo lagoon close to the Rumiñahui volcano. Then drive to Patate to visit the Orchids and waterfall of Mundug 8 km from the cantonal headwaters, is a meeting with the hidden nature of a waterfall of 150mts that resembles a long bridal veil, Close to this area at the Platupamba sector ” we walk approximately 15 min, towards a place where we can find from 10 to 15 varieties of native orchids Return to Hacienda Leito for overnight (B, )

Day 7PATATE QUILOTOA TABABELA

Breakfast. Head North on the “Panamericana ,” which is called “Volcanoes Avenue ,” then drive about an hour and a half to Lake Quilotoa. This lake is a water-filled caldera and the westernmost volcano of the Ecuadorian Andes. The 3-kilometer-wide caldera was formed 800 years ago, the caldera has 250 m deep crater lake, which has a greenish color due to dissolved minerals. Fumaroles can be found on the seabed and hot springs occur on the eastern flank of the volcano. Enjoy the view, and if you like, you can hike down half an hour and 3 hours. Today you will visit a different Flowers farm. Return to Quito for overnight. (B, )

Day 8TRANSFER OUT

After breakfast. Transfer out.
