This special day starts driving to the South on the “Panamericana”, which is called the “Volcanoes Avenue”, with direction to the Cotopaxi National Park which lies at the foot of the world’s highest active snow-capped volcano (5897 m.). Visit to Cotopaxi National Park is located 60 km from Quito. It is an hour drive to this national site consisting of 83,829 acres. The road will take us to the Limpiopungo lagoon close to the Rumiñahui volcano. Beautiful place to drink a canelazo which is the typical drink of the Andes, which is a hot beverage with sugar cane liquord and cinnamom flavor. Continue your trip to Baños called “The Door to the Amazon Jungle” is located at the foot of the Tungurahua volcano and is famous for its thermal waters and the “Agua Santa” Virgin, opportunity to enjoy semi-tropical temperature and do the waterfall avenue. On the way visit the MANTO DE NOVIA, MACHAY and the PAILON DEL DIABLO falls, this last one has three jumps and an amazing whirlpool at the bottom; it gets its name “Devil´s Pot” because the rock behind the fall is shaped as the profile of the devil falls. Lunch at a traditional restaurant were you will try the Ecuadorian soup of the highlands called locro made with different types of potatoe, fresh cheese, and avocado, the famous empanada stuffed with Andean ingredients, and the fritada one of the oldest preparations of the highlands, this include pork different types of corn, and finally a juice of some exhosit fruits like babaco or tomate de arbol.
In the afternoon drive to Puyo to have a mistic experience with one of the most recognized chef of the Amazon Jungle, Dinner and cooking class for Overnight . After breakfast you will drive 2 hours to Sucua, area of particular interest as the center of a branch of the ex-headhunting Shuar (Jívaro) people, where most of the Shuar communities are located, the Shuar Ethnic in Ecuador are called the Warriors of the Jungles, these indigenous people are reluctant to be conquered by the global civilization, instead they want to share the wonders of their environment and its magic culture. Today you will share with a native family, discover their way of living, their colored customs. Have a meeting with The ISHIN (shaman) who will show you the properties of the plants, including the cure of the cancer. You also will fish your own food and learn the traditional way of preparation of the Ayampaco, as well as the preparation of the chicha. After the dance of the community, and the drink of the chicha, traditional beverage you will return to Puyo for Overnight. (B,L,D)
After breakfast we will drive by the road known as the Cinnamon Route; originally this route that starts from Quito was the road taken by the Spaniards conquers to discover the Amazon region, the famous Dorado and the Amazon River.
Arrival to Archidona to visit an Agriculture Cacao project, where you can have the opportunity to try the fine cacao ARRIBA and participate in the process to transform Cacao seeds in the best chocolate on the world. People of the community will invite you to participate in the preparation of the “Maito” for lunch. The “Maito” is one of the most important elements of the gastronomy of the area, it is a wrapped of leaves of “Bijao” in which is placed fish of river along with spices typical of the zone, this wrapped it is placed directly in the fathoms and when it is cooked the fish is It is served on the same leaf accompanied by yucca, palm and salad. The drink that traditionally accompanies this food is the cold tea of Guayusa, a plant of ancestral use of the area that has energetic and moisturizing properties. After lunch you will participate in the activity of preparation of artisan chocolate. Cacao seeds have to be toasted, peeled and grinded the cocoa resulting of this procees is mixed with panela, Ishpingo and cinnamon.
