Itinerary

Day 1BALTRA (Airport) – SANTA CRUZ (Charles Darwin Research Station)

Flight to Galapagos via Guayaquil to Baltra airport, where your guide will receive you and take you to the main town of Santa Cruz Island, Puerto Ayora. Lunch at a typical restaurant. In the afternoon visit of the Charles Darwin Research Station which gives you information about the evolution of the islands and hosts a breeding center of giant turtles. You can see different generations of turtles. Dinner. Lodging at the selected hotel. (B/L/-)

Day 2Speed boat to Floreana (Asilo Paz, Black beach) – Santa Cruz Island

In the early morning a speed boat will take you to Floreana. This island has long been a favorite site of visitors including pirates, whalers and early settlers. One of the oldest islands. Floreana illustrates the aging process of a volcanic island. Unlike the younger western islands, Floreana’s volcano has been long extinct and is in the advanced stages of erosion. The erosion process gave the island the nutrients and soils need to sustain plant life. The combination of this rich soil and a good water supply have given the highlands of Floreana a diversified landscaping of native and introduced flora. You will walk through a place called “Asilo de la Paz” where you can find “La Cueva de los Piratas” (The Pirates´ cave). You can also observe the giant turtles in their typical habitat. In the afternoon, after lunch visit of Black Beach which invites to swim and get to know the beautiful underwater world with your snorkel equipment. Return to Puerto Ayora. Dinner. Overnight at Hotel in Puerto Ayora. (B/L/-)

Day 3PLAZAS ISLAND

Breakfast. Visit South Plazas begins with a dry landing. The rocky trail circumnavigates the island displaying the combination of dry and coastal vegetation zone. The island is home to enormous prickly pear cactus and the endemic succulent sesuvian. These succulents with almond-shaped leaves are green during the rainy season December-May. Then become red during the dry season giving the island an unusual appearance. Box Lunch Included. South Plaza has one of the largest populations of land iguanas in the Galapagos. The iguanas seem to be everywhere once you land. These larger than average yellow-brown land iguanas feed on the fruit and pads of the prickly pear cactus. (B/L/-)

Day 4SEYMOUR ISLAND OR SANTA FE

Visit to North Seymour. North of Baltra is the small islet of North Seymour. The two islands are very similar in appearance both created from geological uplift and having typical arid vegetation including prickly pear cactus, palo santos trees and salt bushes. The visitor trail on North Seymour is approximately (2 km) in length crossing the inland of the island and exploring the rocky coast. Along the way the trail passes colonies of blue-footed boobies and magnificent frigate birds. The magnificent frigate bird, a large black bird with a long wingspan, and a hooked beak, is extremely fast and has excellent vision. Box Lunch Included. Frigate birds are known for the large red pouch on their necks. During mating season the males thrown back their heads, inflate the pouch (sometimes to the size of a soccer ball), and shake trying to capture the attention of female frigates. (B/L/-)

Day 5BARTOLOME

West of Santiago Island. Its surface is 1.2 Km2, and its height is 114 meters over the sea level. It is very young. It has a very special colored due to the different lava types and ages it has. Of course, it is a lot more interesting being there than admiring it from the top. This last is because it is next to hundreds of craters found both in the Bartolome Island and in the Santiago Island. A narrow canal separates them.

Bartolome barely has vegetation, and the existing one is the fresh lava pioneer; but there are endemic species from the Galapagos Islands too. It is an excellent place to take pictures of natural sculptures made by the sea and wind erosion. It is a safe place to look at penguins and fishes while you swim under water with your snorkeling equipment; you can get fun at the beach and take sun. In another place of the Bartolome Island, you can see without getting into the water-, sharks, mantas, sea turtles and other animals. Bartolome has two visit places: By dry landing, which has access to the highest part of the island; or by wet landing, with access to the southwest and northwest part.
Overnight and Dinner at Hotel in Puerto Ayora (B/L/-)

Day 6 ISABELA

On the southeast of Santa Cruz is located the biggest island of the Galapagos: Isabela. Just at 1½ hour navigation from Santa Cruz, you will arrive here and may visit the Tortoise Breeding Center located 1.5 km from Puerto Villamil. This Breeding Center is reproducing in captivity Galapagos tortoises, in total there are 330 turtles between juveniles and adult. To the west of Puerto Villamil, there are various salt and brackish lagoons which house an impressive variety of coastal and sea birds. Here, visitors can also find the largest concentration of flamingos in Galapagos.
The Tintoreras Islet, located a short distance from Puerto Villamil, is home to a great variety of wildlife. Its turquoise, crystalline waters are inhabited by white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos penguins, marine turtles and sea lions. One of its beaches, surrounded by mangroves is one of the few sites where marine iguanas can reproduce successfully. Return to Puerto Ayora for overnight.

Day 7TRANSFER OUT

After breakfast transfer to Baltra, on the way short visit to twin formation. Check in and flight back to Quito or Guayaquil.
