The Ecuadorian jungle region, commonly known as “El Oriente” covers almost half of the surface of Ecuador and is part of the Amazon Basin, the biggest remaining rainforest of the world. The green and humid wilderness hosts an amazing biological diversity and many endemic species; animals and plants are in constant interaction. It is also the habitat of various indigenous ethnic groups like the Huaorani, Kichwa, Ashuar and Shuar who are still maintaining their traditions and special customs. For many generations these tribes are protecting the rainforest and keeping the ecosystem stable.
